Marty Stetzer: Hi everyone, and welcome. I’m Marty Stetzer, president of EKT Interactive in Houston. We are the podcast sponsor with the Society of Petroleum Engineers – Gulf Coast Section, commonly called the SPEGCS.
Today we are pleased to introduce The SPE-GCS Podcast series to our audience of over 10,000 EKTi listeners with Simeon Eburi, the 2020-2021 SPE-GCS Chair in Houston. Simeon, happy to have you with us.
Simeon Eburi: Happy to be here, Marty, and we’re happy to have EKTI as a sponsor and host of some of our podcast episodes.
Marty Stetzer: Simeon, before we start, could you tell our listeners your background?
Simeon Eburi: Sure. As you mentioned, I am the 2020-2021 SPE-GCS chair but, professionally, I work for Chevron as an Exploration and New Ventures Petroleum Engineer in the Global Frontier Exploration and Appraisal group. I have experience in Production Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Reservoir Simulation, Decision and Economic analysis, Heavy Oil Production Operations, Unconventional Resources and Deepwater Green Field Concept Development Planning.
Marty Stetzer: This is Terrific. Can you tell our listeners about the SPE?
Simeon Eburi: The SPE is the professional society for energy professionals. SPE gives its more than 140,000 global members unparalleled insights, shared expertise, life-long learning and community strength to fuel the success of our members and the future of the industry. You can find more information about the professional society offerings at SPE.org. Within SPE, you can be affiliated with your local section like the Gulf Coast Section and actively participate in local events. Visit spegcs.org for section information.
Marty Stetzer: This is great. Now can you tell us what prompted The SPE-GCS Podcast series and what the listeners can expect to hear?
Simeon Eburi: Yes, thank you Marty. The SPE-GCS Podcast was launched as an additional avenue to help support the mission of SPE, which is to collect, disseminate and exchange technical knowledge related to the industry and provide opportunities for our members to enhance their technical and professional competence. In the podcast series you can hear from SPE leaders and technical experts covering global topics like
- the future of the energy industry in transition,
- leadership and soft skills, and
- technical topics in the more traditional oil and gas space.
There’s a little bit for everyone.
Marty Stetzer: Terrific. The podcast series seem to have great diversity of topics. Finally, who can join SPE and how can our listeners join if interested?
Simeon Eburi: SPE is a place for all today’s energy industry professionals regardless of experience or course of study. Although engineers are the core of SPE’s membership, scientists, managers, and other professionals in the industry are part of the SPE community as well. You can join as a Student member or a Professional and ask to be affiliated with the Gulf Coast Section. Visit SPE.org/join for more information about member benefits or to join.
Marty Stetzer: Any further thoughts for our community of EKTi listeners?
Simeon Eburi: Thank you again to EKTI for sponsoring and helping launch The SPE-GCS Podcast. I encourage the EKTi listeners to listen to our podcast series and share some feedback. I would also encourage the listeners to consider joining SPE if they are not members already.
Marty Stetzer: Thanks to you for the opportunity Simeon. Enjoyed every minute of it!
We hope for continued success with the SPEGCS podcast initiative.
