Education in Energy
This years Energy Education Institute program was the 10th annual holding of this part of the OTC. It includes educational activities in conjuction with NEED and STEM for both students and teachers.
150 area teachers attended this free Energy Education workshop, sponsored by ExxonMobil, the most in 10 years of doing these teacher workshops.
Helge Hove Haldorsen – VP Strategy & Portfolio North America, Statoil – led with the keynote address which discussed the four E’s:
- Energy
- Economics
- Environment
- Education
He went on to say:
If you look at the need of energy going forward, in 2040 we need between 50-80% more. And where’s that coming from? Its coming from difficult to get oil and gas, and that needs technology.
And these skills will come from STEM teachers and students.
The teachers went home with some tips and projects from the NEED project instructors about how to incorporate this into their classrooms.
