November is another busy month for Oil and Gas industry events in Houston. The schedule is full with industry conferences, job fairs, training, and networking opportunities. Here are a few great oil & gas industry events for folks of different experience levels and specialties.

SPE Gulf Coast Chapter
SPE is an international volunteer non profit organization that has many sections all over the world. The Houston section, named the Gulf Coast Section, takes pride in being one of the largest and most active of the SPE sections. The Gulf Coast Section was established back in 1935.
The mission of the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Gulf Coast Section is a volunteer non profit organization that enhances technical knowledge among our members through local events, promotes camaraderie and networking in our industry, educates and serves the community, and provides scholarships to students entering the oil and gas industry. GCS raises money through their various events which support over $250,000 of scholarships every year.

Nov 5: SPE GCS Young Professionals Board Meeting
Join SPE Young professionals at the November Board Meeting. This is a good opportunity for YP’s who are interested in volunteering to find out more about the SPE GCS Young Professionals.
Nov 12: SPE GCS at the Find Your Path Career Day
Hosted by the City of Houston HR Dept., the “Find Your Path” 2013 Career Day Expo will allow more than 1500 high school students to discover a wide variety of career opportunities available in Houston’s major growth industries in public and private sectors. SPE-GCS will have an exhibit table and need representatives in Oil & Gas industry to volunteer to support this initiative.
Nov 19: SPE GCS Oil Patch Orientation
This seminar is the most popular SPE program. The course is designed as non-technical audio-visual guided tour through the oil patch, illustrating the basic equipment and techniques used in the discovery, development and production of petroleum.
Nov 21: SPE GCS Young Professionals and Texas Young Professionals (TYP) Networking Event
5:30 – 7:30 pm, Prohibition, 5175 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77056
The Greater Houston STEPS Network fosters a work environment that relies upon open communication and trust and encourages the growth of the STEPS Network. The STEPS Network is a way for those working in, or directly supporting the exploration and production industry, to:
- Promote a safety culture
- Develop an incident-free workplace
- Share oil and gas best practices
- Develop a network of peer safety professionals
Nov 14: National Voluntary Safety Stand Down
The intent of the stand down is to help raise awareness of health and safety issues in the 2013 OSHA fiscal year (October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013). Many individuals from OSHA and NIOSH, industry associations, and educational institutions have been working for several months to make this event a success.

Young Professionals in Energy
Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) is a non-profit organization with more than 12,000 members in its Houston Chapter. By providing a forum for networking and career development through social, educational and civic service opportunities, YPE aims to facilitate the advancement of young professionals in the global energy industry.
Nov 23: YPE Houston Tree Planting
YPE Houston is partnering with Trees for Houston to plant 20-30 15-gallon trees along with some fruit trees on Sinclair Elementary’s campus in The Heights area.
Nov 13: Houston Energy Corridor Connections Networking Event
The event will be held at the Holiday Inn in the Energy Corridor. The same location as our last successful event. Thanks everyone who has attended our other events.
